2nd Monilinia Update for Nova Scotia, April 23, 2021

Friday, April 23, 2021

This is our 2nd Monilinia update for this year.

Blueberry plants develop fast this spring and the growing degree models also indicate that we are well ahead compared to the last few years.

In some early fields, some stems have fruit buds at F2 or above (see Figure 1). In general, most fields I visited and counted fruit buds in Colchester county are at 20% F2 but some fields are ahead of others (30% F2 in Bass River and Portapique area) (see Table 1). I will have more numbers to report from other areas in next week’s update.

Since we are experiencing this fast blueberry development, growers should get out to their fields and check for blueberry development. It is time to calibrate your sprayer and equip it with the right nozzles. Don’t want for the last minute!!!
