This is our 2nd Monilinia update for this
year.
Blueberry plants develop fast this spring and the growing
degree models also indicate that we are well ahead compared to the last few
years.
In some early fields, some stems have fruit buds at F2
or above (see Figure 1). In general, most fields I visited and counted fruit
buds in Colchester county are at 20% F2 but some fields are ahead of others
(30% F2 in Bass River and Portapique area) (see Table 1). I will have more
numbers to report from other areas in next week’s update.
Since we are experiencing this fast blueberry
development, growers should get out to their fields and check for blueberry development.
It is time to calibrate your sprayer and equip it with the right nozzles. Don’t
want for the last minute!!!
